About Us – A Full Service Neurotherapy and Neurofeedback Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia

We are the only full time, full service neurotherapy clinic in Northern Virginia with fulltime on-site licensed mental health therapists who are also board certified in neurofeedback.  Unlike some other local clinics, we don’t have to “oursource” our clients to licensed professionals in the community.  Our professionals are all on staff, onsite at all times and this is very important when working with mental health conditions such as ADHD, depression and anxiety.  Certification and/or advanced degrees are meaningless unless combined with licensure in a mental health or medical field.  Our team of experts includes a Licensed Psychologist, two Licensed Professional Counselors, a Licensed School Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  We also recognize the role nutrition plays in many of the conditions we treat and have a Registered Dietitian on staff.  All of our professionals have training and experience in brain based interventions and two of our therapists are board certified in neurofeedback (BCN or BCIA-EEG) by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance and we are members of the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research.

We provide the most comprehensive selection of neurotherapy and brain enhancement protocols for a more individualized treatment approach.  We offer:  full quantitative EEG brain maps (qEEG), mini qEEG brain mapping, traditional neurofeedback utilizing both traditional and low frequency protocols, passive infrared hemoencephalography neurofeedback, Roshi EEG disentrainment feedback, Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS), Z score four channel functional connectivity training (% Z ok), The Listening Program, and peripheral biofeedback (heart rate variability, galvanic skin response and thermal biofeedback).  We also provide individual counseling, nutritional counseling and psychoeducational testing.

We also offer the most comprehensive and affordable neurofeedback internships, neurotherapy mentoring and supervision in the DC metro area.  This enables new practitioners to acquire hands on neurofeedback mentoring and practice in a busy clinical setting with the most experienced and qualified practitioners treating a wide range of conditions.  We also provide neurofeedback supervision and consultation by phone with new practitioners.

What is Neurofeedback and how is it done?

Also known as EEG biofeedback, neurofeedback training assists individuals in improving their overall functioning.  It is a non-drug, non-invasive and painless method for training the brain.  Sensors are attached to the scalp, which feed brainwaves into an electroencephalogram (EEG) machine that is linked to a computer.  The brainwaves are converted to audio and video displays, which resemble video games.  Individuals with ADD/ADHD, for example, often have a higher percentage of slow brainwaves compared to non-ADD/ADHD individuals.

Watching the video screen and listening to tones give the client immediate feedback on whether his/her brain is making faster or slower brainwaves.  By practicing the making of brainwaves that are normally present when they are calm and focused, clients learn, over time, to maintain the desired state.  There are neurofeedback protocols for a variety of presenting conditions.
