Attention Deficit Disorder – ADHD & ADD
There has been over 30 years of research showing that neurofeedback is helpful for helping children and adults with ADHD increase their concentration and focus and to decrease their hyperactivity, impulsivity and distractibility. Studies show that there are distinctly identifiable traits of the EEG of those with attention deficit disorders (high theta to beta ratios). With neurofeedback training we target these slow theta waves & teach the client how to decrease these and increase faster beta activity.
Successful training results in improvements in classroom, interpersonal and even athletic performance. Research has shown increases in IQ of 10 points and overall GPA increases of 1.5 average (Tansey, 1991).
Our experience and other studies show that results are lasting. Long term follow-up of 10 years with adults who received neurofeedback training as ADHD children showed that the improvements remain (Lubar, 1995). In a recent meta-analysis (which is a compilation of many research studies on one topic to better determine overall effectiveness) on ADHD, neurofeedback was shown to be an effective treatment for this condition.
