Migraines and Neurofeedback: A Non-Invasive Solution

Biofeedback has been shown to be very effective for migraine headaches. We at The Better Brain Center in Alexandria, VA have published our most recent research study on neurofeedback for migraines in the medical journal, Behavioral and Brain Functions in Feb 2010.  Both of our research studies on a total of 54 clients found the same results, that 70% of clients experienced at least a 50% reduction in the frequency of their headaches and that results appear to be lasting. We use a combination of EEG biofeedback, traditional thermal biofeedback and blood flow (hemoencephalography) biofeedback, all of which are non-invasive and painless. Most of our clients see their headache frequency decreased by 70% or more and the pain severity decreased by at least 50%.  Medication usage dropped along with the frequency of headaches.

Stress is often a big trigger for migraine sufferers.  Neurofeedback (also known as Neurotherapy, EEG biofeedback or Neurobiofeedback) is showing promise as a non-invasive and painless method to relieve the stress reactivity and resulting rebound into migraine headache pain. With neurofeedback, the brain learns to function with better self-control and stability through increased self regulation.  With better regulation, stress decreases and migraines lessen or disappear. The Better Brain Center is a leader in the field of neurofeedback for migraine headaches and is conveniently located in Northern Virginia in the DC Metro area just off the metro.
